Theatre District

Antwerp’s Theatre disctrict is centered around “Theaterplein”. Here, we find “Stadsschouwburg” and “Bourla”, two of Antwerp’s most renowned theatres. If you want to catch a musical, opera or a play, you’re in the right place. Be sure to book your tickets in advance though.

The Theatre disctrict is also home to a couple of smaller playhouses like “Fakkeltheater”, “Arenbergschouwburg” or “Theater Elckerlyc”. Not as well-known, but most certainly worth a visit.

If you’re in the vicinity on Sundays, you should drop by “De Vogelenmarkt”, one of Antwerp’s most famous markets. It’s been around since the 16th century and has evolved from a market place for birds and poultry to a bustling market where you can find just about everything – from clothing to toys and even antiques.

On Saturdays, you can visit another market. “Zaterdagmarkt” or – as locals refer to it – “Vreemdelingenmarkt” is the place to be if you are looking for exotic fruits, vegetables and other ingredients. Mixed in with exotic specialities from all around the world, you’ll find some quality Flemish specialities as well.

If you want to take a step back, “Den Botaniek” (Antwerp’s botanical garden) is surely worth a visit. It’s the only place in Antwerp that offers such a wide variety in exotic herbs and plants.

Antwerp’s Theatre District is home to a multitude of great restaurants and eateries. Bien Soigné, Matterhorn and Blueness are surely worth a visit. Do you fancy a typical Belgian beer? The vibrant “Mechelseplein” is the place to be if you want to enjoy a refreshing beer with locals.
